BIO
Dear Garrett Family,
My name is Flora Salene, I have been with Garrett Elementary since the school was opened in 2011, and with Sheldon District for 13 years. I came to the U.S.A. at the age of 27 years old. I didn't go to high school in Mexico. I did not speak any English when I came. I Learned English by watching T.V. with the closed caption letter on the bottom. I became an American Citizen in 2003. I got my G.E.D. from the Galena Park Adult Education program in 2009, and in 2015 went to San Jacinto College for my associate degree. I am finally finishing my bachelor's degree in business administration by May 2024.
Living in Sheldon ISD since I got married in 1999 and raising our two daughters who graduated from C. E. King High School, helped me realize that I see the Sheldon community as my own family, and with the help of my daughters, we had helped Garret students in the past and currently helping college students by offering free tutor lessons at my home.
I am a true believer that it doesn't matter where you are coming from, what matters is where you are heading and who are you helping on your way.
Adversity is the first path to the truth... Lord Byron. Adversity is also a blessing disguised as a curse and can either break you or make you.
Sometimes we're tested not to show our weaknesses, but to discover our strengths.
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more...YOU ARE A LEADER.
Querida familia Garrett,
